And that's a wrap! Thank you to our volunteers, customers, and broader community for contributing to another lovely year at Caffiends. We would also like to extend a special thank you to everyone who made a purchase yesterday, as half of the day's sales will be donated to The Carey Projects. We are grateful for all of your support and love this past year, and we will be back to serve up some coffee and treats in September ♥️

"It’s no secret that U of T has a mental health problem — the issue is that it’s not being adequately addressed. I’m angered that it took 3 deaths on campus for U of T to acknowledge that its students are unhappy. I’m angered, but mostly I’m devastated that we had to lose Carey so young. Carey was one of the brightest minds I have ever known — there really are no words to express the devastating losing her has been. Even now, months after her passing, it’s painful for me to put these words of grief down on paper. I’m grateful for the Carey Projects and for Caffiends for all their work they’ve done, and I hope her legacy lives on. "I joined Caffiends in first year because I thought making coffee was cool (still is). I literally walked into the cafe and asked, "How do I work here?" and Elaine connected me. I loved it and have been volunteering ever since. My favorite part of volunteering is talking to shiftmates and meeting other volunteers when we cover shifts - what makes it even better is that they are stuck there for the hour and HAVE to listen to me talk about the randomest things. For example, I created this drink called the Sad Reaccs Special in the midst of the dark Canadian winter. It is a black coffee filled to the brim of the largest mug available and it must be consumed in one gulp. You have to chug the hot coffee to ensure maximum heat transfer to warm us up." -Adrian #PeopleofCaffiends

"I first heard about Caffiends at Open Vic back in June last year, and I immediately knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. When I signed up, I was a little nervous since I didn't know anyone else, but everyone was super welcoming. My favourite part about volunteering is being able to interact with everyone that comes in and discovering their quirks. It's been one of the best parts of my first year. "I began volunteering with Caffiends in my first year and it was something I looked forward to every week. I found it difficult to find a space on campus to call my own, especially because I was shy and was commuting. But the volunteers and Co-Managers made me feel so welcomed and cozy in the space, so that's what I strived to give back as an executive this year. Spearheading the "People of Caffiends" series was a way for me to not only meet new people and hype up our social media platforms, but was also an opportunity to continue fostering a sense of belonging within our community.
